Parquet is common in older homes around KL and Selangor, and it can last for decades. When blocks start to lift, click or sound hollow, the good news is that the floor can usually be saved without replacing it.

Why blocks come loose

Most loose parquet comes from failed adhesive. Age, moisture from below and the floor moving as humidity changes all weaken the bond until blocks start to rock.

The tap test

Gently tap across the floor with a knuckle or the handle of a screwdriver. Solid blocks sound firm; loose ones sound hollow. A short video of this test on WhatsApp helps us plan the repair.

Re-fixing loose blocks

Loose blocks are lifted, the old adhesive is cleaned off and they are fixed down again. This stops the movement and the hollow sound. A small group of blocks is often done the same day.

Replacing missing blocks

Missing or broken blocks can be replaced with pieces of a similar species, thickness and size. Old parquet has darkened with age, so new blocks are blended in during the finishing stage.

Filling the gaps

Timber expands and contracts with humidity, so small gaps appear over time. They are cleaned and filled so the surface finishes evenly.

Buffing and recoating

Once the blocks are firm, the floor is buffed and given a fresh protective coat. Because parquet blocks can be thin, we remove as little wood as possible.

When to call us

Do not wait until many blocks are loose. Moving blocks damage their neighbours, so an early repair is smaller and easier. Send a photo of the whole room, close-ups of damaged areas and the pattern if you know it.

Common questions

Is buffing the same as sanding?

No. Sanding removes wood and the old finish. Buffing uses fine pads and removes very little, which is why it suits thin parquet blocks.

Can you match my old parquet colour?

We can get close. Old parquet darkens with age, so new blocks are blended during finishing. We discuss this before replacing anything.

How long does a small parquet repair take?

Re-fixing or replacing a small group of blocks is usually done the same day, then the area is levelled, buffed and recoated once the adhesive has set.
